Intraoperative neurophysiological evaluation of central motor conduction time during an untethering surgery: a case report

نویسندگان

چکیده

Tethered cord syndrome is a congenital disease associated with abnormal stretching of the spinal and lumbosacral roots caused by tight terminal filum. Untethering surgery performed to minimize or prevent ongoing neurological deficits in lower limbs, bladder, bowel functions. As untethering itself carries risk inducing additional neural injuries, intra-operative neurophysiological monitoring including electromyography, motor evoked potential (MEP), somatosensory potential, bulbocavernosus reflex essential for improving functional outcomes after surgery. However, as MEP reflects integrity both central peripheral nervous systems, it alone insufficient differentiate between damages nerve roots. Herein, we report first case child whom conduction time were measured during location injuries

Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring during spine surgery: an update

Purpose of review Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) during spine surgery has dramatically evolved over the past decade. A number of techniques have been recently proposed to monitor motor evoked potentials (MEPs), but contradictory results have been published, questioning their reliability to assess specifically the functional integrity of the motor pathways. The aim of the re...

Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring during surgery for tethered cord syndrome.

AIM The tethered cord syndrome refers to a variety of lesions that can cause the conus medullaris to be low-lying or incapable of movement within the spinal canal. Permanent or temporary neurological complications were reported following surgical release. In this report, peri- and postoperative results in cases with tethered cord syndrome that were followed by multimodal intraoperative neurophy...

Intraoperative pulmonary barotrauma during ophthalmologic surgery. Case report.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Nowadays, severe anesthetic complications caused by the improper use of mechanical ventilators are rare. However, technical details even in recent models can be a trap for the anesthesiologist and threaten patient safety. The objective of this report was to demonstrate the importance of a careful analysis of the device to be used, as well as to detect and treat intraop...

A case Report of Cardiac Hydatid Cyst found during an Emergent Tamponade Surgery in an Unstable Patient

Cardiac hydatid cysts are uncommon and pericardial involvement is extremely uncommon. We report a rare case of a cardiac hydatid cyst that was surprisingly found during an emergent tamponade surgery in a woman. She was pale, febrile, ill and toxic and 300cc turbid and purulent fluid was drained. In taking history, it was found that the patient had six sheep dogs in her house. Laboratory analys...

[Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring in spine surgery].

Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) makes it possible to determine the status of neurological function during surgery. It guides the surgeon and minimises the risk of injury. This paper describes the different techniques available for IONM in spine surgery (somatosensory evoked potentials, motor evoked potentials, neurography, electromyography, reflexes and dermatomic evoked pot...
